About Acne

About Acne
Acne is a skin infection that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. This infection makes the skin swollen and red making it look apparent. Acne often causes blackheads or pimples, whiteheads and can appear anywhere from the face, forehead, chest to upper back and shoulders. The pimples and bumps heal very slowly and when one begins to go away another one crops up. Acne can cause scarring and acne pustules can be extremely painful and sensitive. Statistics show that acne affects 3 in every 4 people aged between 11 to 30 years. More than 10 million cases of acne are reported in India every year. Though it is common in teenagers it can affect people of all ages.

Acne Treatments

Discover our comprehensive range of advanced acne treatments, each designed to address specific skin concerns.

Cell Restore Therapy

At La Midas, we have specially designed a therapy for active acne known as ‘cell restore therapy’ which starts with a detailed consultation with the doctor. It is a 7-step deep cleaning therapy and takes only 45 minutes to give you clear, smooth, and acne-free skin.

Cocktail Peel

Cocktail Peel is a combination of two to three peeling procedures mixed together to provide an exceptionally effective treatment that will significantly improve and smoothen your skin.

Carbon Peel

Carbon Peel is a type of Dermaplaning that uses a laminar flow device to remove the top layer of skin. This process can be used to treat conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and keratosis pilaris. It’s also popular for age spots and sun damage. The skin is first cleansed with an alcohol-based solution.

BB Glow Facial

BB Glow Facial is a cutting-edge skin care treatment that uses a special light and mask to help improve the appearance of blemishes, acne scars, and other skin concerns. Gentle light penetrates the skin to clear impurities, while the mask soothes and protects.

Oxygen Therapy

Oxygen Therapy is a popular skin care treatment that uses oxygen-enriched air to improve skin appearance. It is most commonly used to treat wrinkles and dry skin, and can also benefit acne and age spots.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a skin care technique using a device to remove the top layer of skin. It is often used to treat acne, age spots, and other skin issues, and can also improve the appearance of scars.

Types of Acne

The key to the successful treatment of acne is to identify which type of acne a person is suffering. Acne can be categorized into inflammatory and non-inflammatory. Further, it can be classified into the following subtypes:

Blackheads

Blackheads

(open comedones)

When a pore is clogged by sebum and dead skin cells, blackheads occur. They appear as small, dark spots.

How Do You Identify Comedonal Acne?

Mentioned below are a few tips to identify Comedonal Acne:

  • They look like small fleshy bumps. The affected area feels uneven and bumpy.
  • Blackheads will have a tip that appears dark brown or black. You will commonly see them on your nose.
  • Whiteheads look like small whitish or flesh-colored dots on your skin.

What Natural Remedies Are Available?

Natural treatments are increasingly being investigated for all types of acne, including comedones. However, these aren't a replacement for your healthcare provider-approved treatment plan.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel acts as a natural astringent to help balance your skin's moisture. It has the added benefit of opening closed comedones. This can help remove trapped dirt and other debris.

  • You can use witch hazel in place of your usual astringent up to twice a day.

Charcoal or Clay Masks

With comedonal acne, charcoal and clay masks work better than other formulations because they help dry out trapped sebum in your pores. They can even help get rid of trapped dirt and skin cells, making blackhead removal easier.

Facial Steam

A good steam can open up the pores and clear comedonal acne. This is the reason why your salon facials use steam between scrubbing and massaging the face.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is quite acidic and has the ability to dry the skin. It can remove the oiliness, clogged pores, and associated comedones.

  • Mix apple cider vinegar with warm water and apply it all over the face.
  • Repeat a few times till you see the desired results.

Tea Tree Oil

In alternative medicine, tea tree oil is used for a variety of skin ailments. It's touted for helping with inflammation, as well as infections. Tea tree oil may help comedonal acne by reducing sebum and calming the skin.

  • You'll likely be able to find moisturizers and spot treatments containing the oil at your local drugstore.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is also acidic and works to dry out the skin and soak up excess oils. It also contains antibacterial compounds and helps reduce inflammation.

  • Lemon juice can be used undiluted or diluted with equal parts water.
  • It can be applied directly to the affected area of the body using a cotton pad or clean fingers and left on for 20 minutes.

Honey

Honey has powerful antibacterial properties. Its sticky, thick quality also means it smothers pores and stays in place, allowing it to seep deep into the skin.

  • Heat a tablespoon of honey in the microwave for 15 seconds or until it is slightly warm to the touch.
  • After the skin has been cleaned, apply the warmed honey directly and leave on for 15 minutes.

Ways to Prevent Comedonal Acne from Occurring in the first place?

While stress and greasy foods may make existing acne symptoms worse, they are not known to be the cause. In addition, aggressive or excessive cleaning can intensify symptoms and increase the chances of developing whiteheads.

  • Wash your face for at least 30 seconds at a time, using gentle circular motions. No harsh scrubbing!
  • Follow up with witch hazel or an OTC toner.
  • Let your moisturizer dry before applying sunscreen and makeup.
  • Wash your face after working out in the middle of the day.
  • Never sleep with makeup on, as this can trap more oil in your pores.
